Stuttering
Stutter / stammer
Severe fear of expressing the self.
Stuttering breaks the flow of speech, read through the throat as the centre of self-expression. The pattern is a deep insecurity from childhood, often tied to fear of a parent or authority figure, that surfaces in others' presence: a repression in which one cannot quite master intense thoughts and emotions, so the attempt to control one's speech makes it lose its spontaneity. The short explanation's "severe fear of expressing the self" is exactly that. Relief is described as feeling safe enough to let one's expression flow, easing the old fear so words need not be policed.
Example from the findings: the blocked speech is read as childhood insecurity and a fear of an authority figure surfacing whenever one tries to express oneself.
