Gallstones

A gallstone is hardened, and the emotional pattern is hardened, long-held anger. One tradition is specific: a stone forms when one must live under someone's angry power and can neither resolve the situation nor release the stress, so the anger crystallises - and several stones are read as anger at several people. It is read as worsened by having to "show a pretty face" while carrying that anger inside: the more one pretends and hides it, the more readily stones form. The bile and gall bladder are linked throughout to bitter, condemning anger taking literal stone-like form. The short explanation's "unresolved long-term anger" is exactly this. Relief is described as releasing the anger toward those whose power one feels under - rather than swallowing it behind a pleasant face - so life can taste sweet again.
