Edema
Swelling / water retention
Fear.
Edema is read as the body holding water the way one holds onto feeling. In this framework the body's fluids are the emotions, so retained water reflects emotions one will not release - clinging to someone or something from the past, drowning quietly in grief, disappointment or bitterness, and feeling barriers between oneself and what one wants. Underneath runs fear: of letting go, of time passing too fast, of expressing what one feels, leaving one powerless and melancholic. The short explanation's single word, "fear," is that frightened holding-on. Relief is described as trusting enough to let the held feeling - and the grip on the past - flow and drain away.
Example from the findings: edema is read as retained emotion one is afraid to release, clinging on rather than letting it pass.
