Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes is read through the loss of life's sweetness. One systematic framework maps the pancreas, with the stomach and duodenum, to a single lower-thoracic vertebra and locates the surrounding centre's stresses in control, dissatisfaction and a withheld capacity for joy. Another strand of the same tradition reads it more pointedly as the damage of love withheld: it ties the rising frequency of diabetes to loveless marriages, where a child born to parents who do not love each other - or whose quarrels are felt as the destruction of love - carries a critical lack of sweetness, and the body's handling of sugar becomes, in effect, its own attempt to make a life that has lost its love sweet again. The short explanation's "severe disillusionment with life" is that lost sweetness. Relief is described as letting real love and joy back into one's life rather than seeking sweetness elsewhere, and releasing the sorrow and the grip of control.
