Amnesia
Memory loss
Not wanting to acknowledge the reality of life.
Amnesia is read as an escape from a reality too painful to hold. The pattern is a strong wish to flee - to leave - so one withdraws and goes numb, becoming in effect no longer responsible for oneself by separating from one's own awareness and handing things to others, as if then one cannot be judged or condemned. The depth of forgetting is read as tracking the depth of the pain: a partial blocking of unbearable memories, or a total wiping understood as an unconscious attempt at a new life because one could not live with the old. Shame and guilt often sit underneath. The short explanation's "not wanting to acknowledge the reality of life" is that flight from what one cannot face. Relief is described as gently coming back to the present and meeting the pain with support rather than erasing it.
Example from the findings: forgetting is read as escape - separating from one's own awareness so as not to live, or be judged for, an unbearable reality.
