Alcoholism
Alcohol addiction
Escapism from the challenges of life.
Drinking to excess is read as an attempt to fill a deep inner or emotional void - to flee a reality that does not suit one, to quiet fears, or to find the courage to speak and face others one is afraid to show oneself to as one truly is. Underneath run loneliness, guilt and anguish, a sense of being useless or unworthy, and a belief that one does not deserve love or happiness, so one bonds with the drink in place of people and cannot find one's place. The short explanation's "escapism from the challenges of life" is that flight into something that numbs. Relief is described as meeting the void and the fear directly, reclaiming one's own worth, and building real connection rather than escape.
(Note: this is a metaphysical interpretation; alcohol dependence is a serious condition, and support from people and professionals matters.)
Example from the findings: drink is read as filling an inner void and supplying a borrowed courage, becoming a substitute for the connection one is afraid to seek.
